Fattoria di Petrognano

On the south side of the Pizzorne Mountains (1000 metres high), Fattoria di Petrognano dominates the plain of Lucca and Capannori, with the mounts of Pisa, Italy, in the background.

If you wish to spend your holidays in the heart of Tuscany, you can visit the Fattoria di Petrognano, a group of seventeenth century farm houses in quiet surroundings spread with vineyards and olive trees.

Petrognano is a tiny old-fashioned village, high up on the hills. The country estate dominates the village with its 400 acres of land, the traditional oil mill and the winery, where you can taste the precious extravirgin olive oil and D.O.C. wine of the hills of Lucca.

Their guests can enjoy their stay in their accommodations, have a swim in the private swimming pool and be served delicious Italian food in their typical restaurant. Healthy air and sweet climate make Petrognano a pleasant holiday all the year round.

The heart of the estate, and the little village of Petrognano, are situated 350 metres above the sea level, where the cultural landscape of olive groves and vineyards slowly changes to chestnut, oak and cluster pine woodland.

Over 300 villas dated fifteenth to nineteenth century are spread out on the hills of Lucca, each one with its own historical and architectural importance. Many villages also characterize the area: San Gennaro, Collodi, home of Pinocchio, so steep and narrow behind the majestic Villa Garzoni with its magnificent garden; Montecarlo, with the medieval walls and fortress, and the excellent white wine. Lucca is at 15 Km distance, Pisa at 30.

But most of all Petrognano offers splendid walks in the countryside from village to village, or into the woods up to the top of the Pizzorne Mountains, always surrounded by breathtaking sceneries.

The Villa Fattoria Gambaro, dated seventeenth to eighteenth century, is an historical and artistic monument of national interest. It consists of the main residence, the villa, its beautiful park with century old trees and flower garden, and of the ancient fountains and rural buildings, the fattoria: a typical Italian borgo.

This is the centre of life and activity of the estate. In the Fattoria are included the traditional oil mill, the winery and the restaurant. The panoramic terrace of the villa looks upon the historical Six Miles Territory and on the Plain of Lucca.

Fattoria di Petrognano is an organic farm. It produces Extravirgin Olive Oil and D.O.C. Wine, Colline Lucchesi Rosso. The olives are cold pressed in the old stone mill. The grape varieties of the wine are Sangiovese and Merlot.
