In 1918, when the First World War came to an end, Arturo Bucher, grandson of the Swiss entrepreneur and luxury hotel pioneer Franz Josef Bucher, bought the Grand Hotel. With 150 members of staff, the hotel attracted increasingly prominent names to their beautiful oasis of peace. Bellagio became more and more popular in the 1950s, with Hollywood stars and international politicians: Sir Winston Churchill, Roosevelt, the Rothschilds, J. F. Kennedy, Mary Pickford, Clark Gable, and Al Pacino are just a few of the prestigious guests who have walked the lounges and gardens by the lake. Another feature marking this luxury hotel as being of the highest level is the loving care devoted to food and wine: thanks to the visionary work of chef Ettore Bocchia, the father of Italian molecular cuisine, the Mistral Restaurant at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni wins a Michelin star, which it still holds today.
