Nestled between olive groves and vineyards, in the rolling Lucca hills, is where you will find the medieval town of San Gennaro. While driving up the small country roads and walking down the cobblestone streets in this historic town, you will instantly feel that you have stepped into another time. After settling in you will find that San Gennaro Castello is the perfect base to explore Tuscany, Italy. San Gennaro Castello, dating back to 1692, used to be the olive oil mill of the village of San Gennaro in the castle proximity. The castle, of which unfortunately nothing remains, was probably destroyed at the beginning of the XIIIth century by a popular uprising against the citizens of Porcari, who had killed the magistrate sent by Lucca. The B&B has been recently eco renovated using local natural materials (terracotta tiles, “Matraia” stones, chestnut wood beams etc.) to preserve the historic character of the mill. The property is developed on three floors. On the ground floor you can find the original olive mill of San Gennaro dated 1600. Making up the first floor is the reception, lounge, the Sports Bar dining area and two suites. Here you can access the panoramic garden with a gazebo and a BBQ for al fresco dining. The second floor is comprised of two suites and one bedroom. From the garden, as well as the bedrooms on the second floor, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Lucca hills with its vineyards and olive groves. San Gennaro Castello is an innovative concept of hospitality. It is the right balance between a hotel and a house. Its accommodations are scattered in different buildings within the medieval village of San Gennaro on Lucca hills olive oil and wine road. This concept was born out of an idea of Dario Cecchini and his wife Marie Claire Atwell, who have always been in love with the village, fascinated by the colours, scents and flavours that San Gennaro’s historic centre has been able to preserve and the traditions it has handed down. The San Gennaro Castello project wanted to enable visitors to enjoy all this, something every resident experiences on a daily basis. The Bed & Breakfast offers regular hotel services such as room rentals (from deluxe bedrooms to panoramic suites with air condition) with or without breakfast, reception, info and tour desk, library, internet lounge and restaurant (on request and availability) as well as a panoramic garden equipped with a barbecue, tables and chairs, umbrellas and lounge chairs. Then there are the self-catering apartments and private villa with pool, which can be easily reached by foot through the charming alleys of the village.
