The Santellone is a unique and suggestive place, completely renovated, respecting the original structure of the monastery from which it rises. It was the Benedictine monks of Vallombrosa who built a monastery there in the I-II century, at the gates of the city of Brescia and on the edge of the splendid setting of Franciacorta. The Abbey underwent continuous changes and extensions until in 1536 the Benedictine monks left the site. The structure, transformed into a farm, was then granted to the Capuchin friars, who remained there for a few years. The last Abbot, Cardinal Giovanni Andrea Archetti, dates back to 1797, the year in which numerous assets of religious corporations were confiscated by the state and then sold. The following year, the Abbey was sold to the Gambara Counts, thus becoming a manor house with an adjoining farm. The radical transformation of the buildings of the ancient monastery first into a farmhouse, then into a noble house (1700-1800) and finally into a splendid accommodation complex characterized by a Resort, a Wellness Centre and a Restaurant, made it possible to understand what was once the articulation of the medieval monastery and some of the transformations it underwent especially between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. On the whole, some architectural remains are still visible today. Recent renovations on the rooms, have enhanced the characteristics and personality, making each one unique and distinctive. Rooms and Suites are united by a pleasant feeling of well-being and tranquillity that emerges from a refined and imperceptible attention to detail. The terraces give depth to the private spaces and the large windows complete the picture, giving brightness and splendour to every corner of the room.
